work: Cultural and Public Galleries: Harvard University Edison & Newman room
IKD is currently providing a feasibility masterplan study, fundraising presentation material, and constuction documentation for the renovation of the Edision & Newman Room at the Houghton Library at Harvard University. Uniquely, the Houghton is the only library on the main campus that does not require student ID for access, allowing for a large array of public engagement possibilities. Program of the room includes rare book storage, special exhibition space, lecture spaces, and large gathering space for special events. lKD has also been engaged for the design of permanent, conservation- grade in-wall and freestanding casework, A/V intergration, temporary exhibition walls, lighting design, wayfinding graphics design, and the design of the library's inaugural exhibition when the space reopens in the fall of 2020. IKD worked closely with the library staff, leadership, and facilities to ensure that all stakeholder needs are addressed with special consideration of how to design exhibition display solutions that address workload management concerns of staff members while still allowing for the exhibition programming to grow over time as staffing increases.
